MARSHA HEATWOLE - Artist Statement
Animals and picturemaking are my passions. I have a hands-on commitment to my art that goes beyond the craft, which involves meeting and inter-acting with my subjects. This interest has led me from my familiar domestic animal neighbors to places as far afield as Africa. In my images, whether a goofy dog or an elegant giraffe, I strive to create a world where one can enter into the art by identifying with the subject, and encounter the art of the abstract.
I work in several media including etching, silk-screen, one-of-a-kind "altered monotypes", and painting. All of the design work, drawing, painting and marks are mine. My husband, Larry Evans, assists me by hand-pulling the editions of my original prints.
My home is an old log cabin at the foot of a mountain in the Shenandoah Valley where Larry and I live with our eleven (at last count) adoring pets.
